The easiest route is here. There are slightly shorter but more complex routes, so let me know if you want to risk confusion :D
- I-8 East.
- Take HWY 111 North exit off I-8 East (around El Centro).
- Turn right (east) on S-80 (shortly after exiting the 8).
- Turn left onto HWY 115 North.
- Turn right on HWY 78 East.
- Then follow our from the 78 directions.
Traffic is a bitch on Friday nights...
- Get to I-10, via your favorite route. 10 East, that is.
- Take the 10 East for a LONG time, through Palm Springs to Indio.
- Take 86S Expressway.
- HWY 78 East will "join" the 86S and run together until Brawley.
- Pass through Westmoreland and into Brawley. Brawley is your last chance for gas/food/drink.
- In Brawley, you want to continue on the 78 East. This is basically the same road you are already on. I only mention this so you don't turn off the main road following 86S signs.
- As you leave Brawley, HWY 115 sort of joins up with the 78. FYI.
- As the road takes a big turn to the right (full 90 degrees), you'll see a green sign indicating a left turn for Blythe and Glamis, which is where the 78 East continues. Turn there. If you don't turn, you'll be on the 115. Take this turn SLOW!
- You should still be on the 78 East after that last turn. Cows on the left (north).
- Now follow our from HWY 78 directions.
If you are here, that's a miracle! We always camp off of Gecko Rd, on one of many numbered "pads", or at the end of the road in what is called "Road Runner". We'll tell you ahead of time where we are at. The road has pad numbers painted on it as you approach them. Anyway, this is an overview. Continue with directions:
- From your last turn, you'll travel roughly 18 miles or so on this stretch of the 78.
- After passing the sign that says "Glamis: 9 miles", be alert. It's NOT 9 miles to the next road.
- Turn right on Gecko Rd. Really the first "road" you'll hit once you start seeing other campers. This is also where the ranger station is, so that might be another marker to look for.
- You may need to stop and get a pass. $25 cash is best. Call us after you get your pass so we know you are here.
- Keep driving until you find us standing on the road, or you see our BIG YELLOW truck and white "Next Level" trailer.
- Gecko Rd. dead-ends, so if you don't see us, just turn around at the end and drive back the other direction.
